Piacenza in Emilia Romagna - Via Francigena a Piacenza e provincia
Chi percorreva la Romea arrivando da Pavia, faceva sosta nell'antica Pieve di Olubra, attorno alla quale si sviluppò l'odierna Castel San Giovanni. L'importanza di questa zona era dovuta all'incrocio di importanti strade: la Romea, la via Postumia e la via diretta in Val Tidone.
Grande era il traffico, sia di merci che di uomini. Per tale ragione già nel XIII secolo erano presenti ben quattro ospedali: l'Ospedale di Costola, quello di S.Giacomo, l'Ospedale dei Battuti e l'Ospedale legato alla Pieve. Oltre Piacenza, la via Francigena coincide da qui in poi con vari tratti della Via Emilia e attraversa i centri di Pontenure, Cadeo, Fontanafredda, Fiorenzuola d'Arda, Castell'Arquato, Lugagnano, Velleia, Vernasca, Castelletto e Morfasso.
