Villa San Marco, Terricciola - Pisa in Toscana
L’antica Villa appena restaurata sorge sui resti di una Pieve medioevale che controllava i flussi sulla via del commercio che da Pisa si dirigevano verso Volterra e Siena. Dai primi documenti che risalgono all’anno 855, la pieve, proprietà della diocesi di Lucca, rivestiva una notevole importanza, in quanto dotata di un ricco patrimonio e di quattordici chiese suffraganee. Nel 1300 la pieve andò via via diminuendo di importanza in seguito a guerre comunali che resero pericolose le funzioni in una chiesa di campagna per cui le popolazioni preferirono le chiese dei vicini castelli fortificati: così nel 1466 la pieve di Santa Maria a Suvigliana cessò le sue funzioni. Il vescovo di Lucca nel 1575 ordinò il restauro nominandola con il nome di San Marco a Suvigliana. Nel 1622 fu soppresso il beneficio a favore della cattedrale di San Miniato e la pieve venne ridotta ad oratorio.
